More Settling In: Part 2

I’m baaaack with more updates from DC on the home front — and soon will hopefully be able to show you some progress on our house in New Hampshire too. It’s incremental progress but progress all the same, right?!

Ok, first up is my daughter Avery’s room which as the girls (ages 21 & 19 as of yesterday!) say, “We get it, Mom, our bedrooms are basically an Air bnb now.” Well, I haven’t yet stooped to actually rent their rooms out but their rooms do double as active guest rooms:)

Our old house had different color paint in every room so the bed linens were mostly clean white, but in our new house, all of the rooms are painted the same greige color — SO, the bed linens give a great chance to add some color & pattern. For Avery’s room, I chose the Westport duvet cover & some pillows from Serena & Lily. The headboard is actually from Amazon & is 100% cotton duck - super practical, yet soft.

I was kind enough to put two of my favorite paintings by dad in this room - which selfishly I can see returning to my room some day!:) An oil of the Brooklyn Bridge + a very Edward Hopperesque watercolor of a country scene. (The shades, by the way, are from The Shade Store & can be opened with a motorized clicker which is super helpful given how high they are.)

Below, a little side table from Ballard by Suzanne Kasler - I love!! It’s very clean & classic - can go modern or traditional depending how you style it….(btw, I really should have tidied up those cords for you!).

The next project I had to tackle in DC was the empty stair landing which was begging for a gallery of family photos. It was the scene of piles of photos & frames for oh, let’s say, 6 months - hey, it took a while to figure it out!:)

Spending money on a bunch of Crate & Barrel frames forced me into action — bringing together everything from pics of my kids when they were young to a sweet photo of my great-grandfather & my grandmother when she was about 7 years old. Below is that same grandmother when she was a 20 year old model in NYC - glamorous, no?!

I love seeing my grandmother’s strong, determined face every morning as I go downstairs, almost silently saying, “You’ve got this!” She was a mother of 4 children, married to a crazy busy husband for more than 60+ years, a master decorator in NYC & Europe, & ultimately (her dream!) - a dealer at the New York Winter Antiques Show. I hope she can bring me some luck in pulling together our New Hampshire house (below) in coming months! Stay tuned for progress on the New England homefront….

I can deal with hanging art etc. like in photo above, but the basement & sundry items from our various moves is….daunting!
