3 FEEL-GOOD IDEAS FOR THE QUARANTINE

I’ve been at a loss about what to cover during these crazy days - I started a half dozen posts that just didn’t feel right. But as I looked around, I saw so many women I admire using this time in really uplifting & profound ways….so THAT is what I want to share with you now! And maybe just maybe it will spark an idea or a solution for you during this trying time. Be well!!

1. SAVING RESTAURANTS WHILE THANKING OUR HEALTHCARE WORKERS: Elena Tompkins. Just a few days ago, I got an email from a DC neighborhood friend saying she was thinking of way to help our local restaurants AND healthcare workers by arranging restaurant deliveries to medical staff on the front line of this epidemic. A true win win!

Just a few days later, Elena had inspired many of us to chip in, even small amounts, & her “idea” blossomed into delivering over 2,500 meals so far! If you’d like to get involved, go to FeedtheFight.org or email FeedTheFightDC@gmail.com.

BUSINESSES ARE GIVING BACK TOO - My former client, national salad chain Sweetgreen is playing important role, turning their Sweetgreen Outposts into FREE special delivery runs for hospital staff.

If you live near one & want to coordinate for your hospital, click on link above or go Sweetgreen.com & click on the Covid tab in menu…They’re eager to help!

2. HELPING MAKE OUR HOMES MORE COMFORTABLE DURING THIS CHALLENGING TIME: Amy Mitchell of Home Glow Design.

My hats off to another friend, fellow NH homeowner & design blogger (& Dartmouth grad:), Amy immediately recognized how stressful our domestic lives were about to become. Her answer? She created a free 5-wk online “Sheltering In Place in Your Forever Home” challenge with lots of free or low-cost design tips & community support to make our homes function better.

Her private Facebook group has fun stuff to motivate us & gives chance to win free design consult with her (which FYI, I am determined to win as I need all the help I can get according to my opinionated daughters!:)

3. VIRTUAL COCKTAILS PARTIES, TALKING IT OUT WITH FRIENDS & SOAKING UP SELF-HELP RESOURCES. I’m impressed with the people who seem content making soup & doing puzzles during this time — because. that. is. NOT. me. I’m alternately restless & edgy….bored & lazy…..all the while feeling guilty for having these “First World Problems” while others are sick or truly in dire straits. Some ideas:

Follow @DrAliciahClark on Insta - or better yet, read her book Hack Your Anxiety. She is full of coping strategies for anxiousness - of course I’m anxious that I left my copy in DC, as I’m in NH — perhaps we need another copy here!

Life coach Mel Robbins says we need to fill up our calendars to some degree each day, blocking off workouts & appts for calls or Skype sessions with friends now just as we would “in real life.” This attempt to create structure & routines sounds like a great idea - I’m working on that sloooooowly but hopefully surely.

What techniques or ideas did I miss for getting through this? I am ALL EARS for your suggestions!

Wishing you all good health & perhaps some time to reflect, or at least get through this experience in one piece:)
